Teaching Students with Disabilities Microcredential

The Teaching Students with Disabilities microcredential is designed for students who have initial or professional teacher certification and are seeking to obtain an additional initial certification in teaching students with disabilities.

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completing of this program, students will be able to:

  1. Know, analyze and critique the construct of behavior disorders as described in education law including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
  2. Develop strengths- and needs-based assessment, diagnosis and evaluation of students with disabilities to create Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  3. Describe and explain how to create supportive and inclusive learning contexts and how to proactively manage the environment for students with disabilities.
  4. Develop learning activities with appropriate accommodations, differentiations, and service plans for meeting students' individual needs.
  5. Consider the impact of ableism and ability narratives on families to better support students with disabilities and their families.
